Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)

IOP1Our intensive outpatient programs focus on education and counseling in both individual and group settings to achieve abstinence and to develop a self-responsible plan of recovery.

Intensive outpatient treatment initially focuses on motivating participants towards treatment participation and abstinence. Brief therapy techniques, psycho-education and counseling processes in both individual and group settings are used in this regard.

Clients attend three group sessions per week, initially. As observable progress is made, attendance is reduced to two group sessions per week and then to one weekly session. In addition to drug and alcohol educational didactics, clients participate in an individualized counseling program including help with stress management, anger management, communication skills, assertiveness training, and engagement in activities that enhance behavioral changes needed for total abstinence.

Genesis IOP is designed for adults who have a recent history of excessive and maladaptive substance use and meet diagnostic criteria for substance abuse or dependency. Participants must not have medical complications that would hamper participation and must have social skills to develop a recovery-oriented support network or to become involved in a self-help fellowship. Clients must express willingness to work towards treatment goals and to provide samples for “clinical” random urine and saliva drug screens.
